Officer asked to inform petitioner reasons for his action

HYDERABAD: The High Court on Tuesday directed issuance of warrant against the Regional Passport Officer as he was not filing a counter-affidavit nor producing records in spite of several adjournments.

Justice Raghuram passed the interim order on a writ petition filed by S. Srinivasa Krishna who complained that his passport was taken away by the officer concerned on the claim that it was being impounded. When the writ petition came up for hearing on earlier occasions, the judge ordered for production of records and filing of counter or for appearance in person. The court was informed that the officer was on leave and no counter-affidavit was filed.

Justice Raghuram directed the officer to inform the petitioner in writing the reasons for the extreme action taken against him within 48 hours. The case was listed to June 8.
