Hyderabad: No need to pace the platform while waiting for a train. You can now usefully employ the time surfing the Net. If you want you can also send e-mail, do audio video chatting through webcam, play games or charge you mobile.

All these facilities are now available at the Hyderabad railway station. Anjan Kumar Yadav, Secunderabad MP, formally launched the facility by inaugurating a cyber café at the railway station on Monday.

The air-conditioned cyber café has eight PC terminals along with a web camera, printer, one VOIP telephone for making low cost ISD calls, scanner and CD writer. Regular subscribers can access the facilities through RailTel pre-paid cards using unique pin number. The cards will be available at an initial cost of Rs. 20 for the first time while further charging and recharging will be in various denominations of Rs. 50 to Rs. 500. The Net can also be accessed through scratch paper cards available in denomination of Rs. 10 and Rs. 20.

Other facilities

The South Central Railway plans to commission similar cyber cafes at Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam railway stations.

Mr. Yadav also inaugurated improved passenger amenities like upgraded cloak room, remodelled waiting hall for women and general passengers, AC waiting hall, passenger interface area with seven counters. "A sum of Rs. 2 crores has been incurred on providing these facilities," said Sudhir Mital, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad.

He said work was in progress to create an additional pit line so that more number of trains could be run from Hyderabad railway station. Besides, a surveillance system like the one at Secunderabad railway station would be installed here. Mr. Yadav, who went round the station, appreciated the improved amenities. He asked officials to consider introducing a direct train from Hyderabad to Ajmer as there was heavy pilgrim traffic to the place.
