The pilgrimage season has begun but the Haj House is in the news for a different reason. Intending pilgrims visiting the place were in for a surprise when they saw flag-wielding TDP men staging a dharna and raising slogans the other day. They were protesting against the leasing out of the Haj House building for a three star hotel.

The idea of commercial exploitation of a place meant to facilitate the Haj pilgrimage has drawn flak from different quarters. However, the fact remains that the multi-storeyed Haj House building remains largely under utilised. Though offices pertaining to minority affairs have been shifted here, but a number of floors are still unoccupied. It is only during the Haj season that the premises are cleaned and there is some activity.
