Old woman dies of heart attack during clash in Gudala village

AMALAPURAM: Police fired four rounds in the air and resorted to lathi-charge following group clashes at Gudala village near Allavaram on Sunday.

A mob looted about 40 houses, destroyed furniture, damaged a Maruti van and ten motorcycles.

An old woman, Bandaru Subbayamma (69), died of heart attack when a mob attacked her house during the clashes, while a pregnant woman sustained serious injuries when she was beaten up by the same group.

Superintendent of Police Charu Sinha, after visiting the village on Sunday afternoon, said that a group of youths hired an autorickshaw which broke down on the way to their respective places on Saturday night. The youths first argued with the autorickshaw driver and then beat him up. The driver gathered his men, chased the youths and roughed them up. On the complaint of the auto driver and others police arrested the youths. On Sunday morning, about 200 armed persons attacked Gudala village and ransacked the houses of another group.

Police tried to stop them but in vain as they were outnumbered by the mob. Among those injured were Polisetty Venkataraju, Nukala Veerabhadra Rao, K. Raju, Police Constable Damisetty Raju, P. Yedukondalu, P. Rambabu and Attili Suryanarayana.

From Saturday night, Amalapuram DSP Lakshmi Narasaih, CI Venkateswarlu and other police officials were camping in Gudala village.
