Bandaru Dattatreya charges Chief Minister with encouraging defections

HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary Bandaru Dattatreya has said that post-panchayat raj polls, his party will emerge as a force to reckon with.

"Going by the present political scenario, the BJP is going to play a major role once the polls are over," he told reporters here on Thursday and did not rule out alliance with Telangana Rashtra Samiti TRS) if the latter quit the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government and joined hands with it.

Saying the Congress was playing with sentiments of people of Telangana by opposing statehood, Mr. Dattatreya accused Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy of encouraging defections. He expressed shock at the manner in which TRS leaders were openly welcomed by Dr. Reddy at a meeting in Medak district in the presence of the Union Minister, A. Narendra.He advised TRS president, K. Chandrasekhara Rao and Mr. Narendra to realise the Congress game plan, which was dead opposed to a separate State.
