Says written notices were given and enquiries conducted prior to inclusion or deletion of names

Copy of revised final list given to all recognised political parties in February 2006Appeals for inclusion or deletion of names enquired into by six senior district officials

GUNTUR: All eligible voters who had appealed for inclusion or deletion of their names from the voters' list were given written notices and enquiries conducted by senior officials, according to District Collector G. Jayalakshmi.

Responding to the allegations by some political parties on irregularities in the voters' list in Guntur, she said that a copy of revised final list of voters was given to all the recognised political parties in February 2006.

All appeals received on the contents of the lists were received either in person or by post at the Collector's office till March 13. The appeals were enquired into by six senior district officials who were allotted a few mandals each. They had given written notices to the petitioners in advance and conducted door-to-door survey.

After the enquiry reports were received by the District Collector, she conducted a random check after giving necessary written notices to the petitioners across various mandals between May 11 and 16.

Ms. Jayalakshmi called upon people not to be misled by rumours and misunderstandings. Steps were being taken to ensure that the lists were according to the voters' lists of the last Assembly elections. Any discrepancies noticed in the two lists or those requiring any clarifications can approach the Revenue Divisional or MROs concerned, Ms. Jayalakshmi added.
