Lift overall championship at the inter-school athletic meet

  • Five schools take part in the inter-school athletic meet held for primary students

    VIJAYAWADA: It was a day to remember for dozens of schoolchildren for they had an opportunity to showcase their sporting prowess in the inter-school athletic meet organised by Nalanda Vidya Niketan here on Friday.


    Students in Classes I to V of NSM Public School, Mahita Public School, KCP Siddhartha Adarsh, V.P. Siddhartha Public School and the host school took part in various track events, amidst cheers from their parents and teachers from the sidelines.

    After a gruelling session, NSM Public School students hogged the limelight by lifting the overall championship, followed by KCP Siddhartha Adarsh finishing second. Events were held in high jump, long jump, 100 and 50 metre sprints, ball-throwing and lemon-spoon race.

    Mayor Tadi Sakuntala, who inaugurated the meet, lauded the efforts of Nalanda Vidya Niketan in organising sports meet for students of primary classes. "Apart from education, sports should be given prominence as it would help students grow into confident human beings. Sports and games will give the all-important recreation which enables the students to stay fit and healthy," she said. Nalanda school authorities provided working lunch to all the participants and also gave away trophies and mementoes to the winners. Nalanda Educational Institutions correspondent A. Vijay Babu, primary school principal G. Gayathri and principal of Nalanda Vidya Niketan (secondary) V.K. Prasad took part in the inaugural function.
