Wins volleyball tourneyThe Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kommadi, won the district-level inter-school Nalanda Talent Volleyball tournament. Chaitanya Public School, Ukkunagaram, was the runner-up. The final was conducted on Sunday. The vidyalaya will get the winners cup and a cash prize of Rs.5,000 and Chaitanya Public School will receive the runners cup and Rs.3,000 in cash. A total of 28 teams participated. The trophy, cash and individual prizes and participation certificates will be given away at a function on August 15, said a school press release.
Free homeopathic medical campsUmar Alisha Rural Development Trust organised two free homeopathic medical camps for the treatment of chikungunya and other related fevers in the city on Sunday. Doctors distributed preventive homeopathic medicine among patients. Homeopathic medicine specialist Dr. Ananda Kumar Pingali rendered service at the camp among others.
250 patients examined at medical campSaroja Hospital and Art of Living conducted a free, multi-speciality medical camp at Chittibabu Colony in Tatichetlapalem. Andhra Medical College Pricipal C.V. Rao inaugurated the camp. Around 250 patients were examined, various tests conducted and medicines given away.
YMCA singing contestKotak Salesian School, Nalanda Talent School and Timpany Secondary School have won the first, second and third prizes respectively in a competition for singing patriotic songs to mark Independence Day, according to G. Sunder Singh, executive secretary.
G. Steven Peter, vice-president (administration), gave away the prizes to the winners. Convener Leonora Mohan coordinated the competition in which nine schools participated.
Stamp and coin exhibitionAn exhibition of commemorative postal stamps and coins on freedom fighters and political leaders will be inaugurated in the Corporation Museum on the Beach Road on August 15.
It will be on from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. till August 20, said a press release.
The exhibition will be conducted courtesy Suggu Prabhakar Rao, founder and president of Visakha Stamps and Coins Collectors' Association.
Notified holiday for meat shops The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has declared a notified holiday for meat shops in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday in view of the Independence Day and Krishnashtami respectively, according to a press release. Those violate the closure notice will be punished.
