Intelligence agencies sound alert about Maoist movement

  • 8 teams of Chikkadpally division conduct search
  • Take locals by surprise
  • Go deep into lanes and by-lanes

HYDERABAD: Alerted by intelligence agencies about reported movement of some Maoists, the city police conducted an extensive search in and around Musheerabad on Saturday.

Some eight teams of the Chikkadpally division police conducted the search in Parsigutta crossroads, Ramnagar and Municipal Colony areas around 5 p.m. taking the locals by surprise.

    Middle-class families

Led by Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, the teams went into interior lanes and by-lanes of the localities, predominantly occupied by middle-class families.

    Houses inspected

While door-to-door search was conducted in some pockets, houses were inspected at random in other zones.

    Photocopies

Holding colour xerox photocopies of a Maoist leader T. Venkateswara Rao alias Ashanna, the police parties called on house owners and tenants and inquired if they ever came across the naxalite.

However, no one could recognise the person. None could give any clue either. But the teams went around every street on foot with the Chikkadpally ACP Sumathi Reddy personally guiding them.

Onlookers gathered at various junctions, taken aback by the sudden arrival of a large number of men and officers in uniform in several vehicles. Vehicles also were checked and drivers subjected to frisking.

    However, no arrests were made.
