Rs. 1-cr. diamond necklace unveiled ahead of the exhibition

VIJAYAWADA: It may be okay to say that the diamonds are forever, but the exhibition and sale of some eye-popping and glittering export diamond jewellery, organised by Vaibhav Jewellers at Hotel Fortune Murali Park, is only for two days. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

London-based Model Rose Keech inaugurated the two-day exhibition on Saturday by unveiling a diamond necklace set priced a whopping Rs. 1 crore.

Impressive start

The inauguration was an elaborate affair, opening with an invocation dance to Lord Ganesh by the students of dance exponent Anand Shankar. This was followed by a couple of youngsters dancing to the rhythm of a jazzy Hindi film song and a dazzling fashion show by some models wearing designer diamond jewellery. Models draped in white designer wear showcased some exquisite necklaces and chokers.

Vaibhav Jewellers managing director Manoj Kumar Grandhi recalled his childhood in Eluru, where he was born. Eleven years ago, he established jewellery business at Visakhapatnam with the help of his father. In a short span, his business grew manifold. As Vaibhav had been attracting customers from West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts, the two-day exhibition was being organised for their benefit.

Mr. Kumar said Vaibhav usually sold diamond jewels in the price range of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 50 lakhs. But the diamond necklace priced Rs. 1 crore was a novelty made exclusively for the exhibition. "My dream is to bring diamonds within the reach of everybody," he said.

The exhibition showcased the latest in international designs. A variety of jewels with diamonds set along with other precious gems like rubies and emeralds in gold and white gold were put on display. A separate counter with jewel-studded watches with prices ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 35,000 is also part of the exhibition.
