Defaulting customers have to pay Rs. 1,000 towards reconnection charges

  • BSNL to allow reactivation of connections free of charge for a week, which began on Monday
  • Over 58,000 BSNL prepaid connections and nearly 4,000 `Anant' connections in the district
  • Lifetime free incoming offer has evoked good response from students, workers and offices

VIJAYAWADA: Users of `Anant', the pre-paid cellular connection with lifetime free incoming facility of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), will have to recharge their connections with a minimum amount every six months. Otherwise, the service will get disconnected, and they will have to pay another Rs. 1,000 towards reconnection charges.

    Prompt response

Several hundred customers of `Anant' have faced disconnection in Vijayawada BSNL limits, even as the officials have promptly responded to save them of additional money. Those customers, whose connections have already been terminated, can now get reconnection free of charge. The BSNL will allow reactivation of their connections for a week, which began on Monday. One can call toll-free number 1991 for any clarifications.

BSNL general manager P. Balagangadhar Rao says that any connection will get deactivated at the end of six months if there is no reminder by way of an outgoing call, as the network system will forget about the connection. To avoid this, customers should use a minimum recharge coupon and keep their connection active. It will ensure that the system continues to recognise the mobile number without any problem.

When several customers represented their problem, the officials have written to the BSNL circle office for restoring their connections without charging anything extra. Normally, BSNL collects Rs. 1,000 and service tax extra for reconnection, but exemption has been given for now.

There are over 58,000 BSNL prepaid connections in the district, and `Anant' connections are nearly 4,000.

Customers are under the assumption that they can just get free incoming service for a lifetime. Though the service is ensured, technical requirement have to be met by using some recharge coupon for every six months.

    Full talk time value

The lifetime free incoming offer evoked good response from students, workers and offices. There has been stiff competition in this segment with private cellular providers coming out with different offers to widen their customer base.

Meanwhile, full talk-time value is being given on purchase of prepaid recharge coupons of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 3,000.
