To call off agitation after consulting State leadership

  • Collector terms it a family dispute that needs to be settled in a give and take manner
  • Promises to intervene if the staff faced any problem in future
  • Says she has counselled the Joint Collector against hurting the sentiments of staff

ONGOLE: Revenue employees have relented on their demand for transfer of Joint Collector Siddhartha Jain.

They, however, have said that they will call off their work-to-rule agitation only after consulting their State leadership.

District Collector B. Udaya Lakhsmi sent a letter to revenue employees who had been agitating for the last 20 days to come for talks with a view to finding an amicable settlement.

Andhra Pradesh Revenue Services Association leaders -- Bopparaju Venkateswarlu, Mastan Rao and Pitchaiah - came for talks on Friday.

Ms. Udaya Lakshmi said that it was a "family dispute" and should be settled in a give and take manner. She said that Mr. Siddhartha had already made it clear to the agitating employees that he had no ill will against anyone. The Collector said that she had counselled him to be accessible to all employees and not hurt their feelings while extracting work from them.

    `No vindictive action'

She gave an assurance to the agitating employees that she would intervene if they faced any problem in future. She said that there would be no vindictive action against anybody.

She also agreed to write to the government to resolve the issue in which 12 civil supplies officials were suspended on charge of committing irregularities in 1994. Most of them had retired and some of them even died without availing of their superannuation benefits and pension.

The leaders agreed to call off their agitation but only after meeting their State leadership. They said that the leadership had invited them to Hyderabad on Saturday for a meeting with the Chief Secretary. They said they would apprise the Chief Secretary of the harassment meted out by the Joint Collector.
