Congress Government policies come under criticism at public meet

ONGOLE: Telugu Desam activists took out a rally from NTR Bhavan here on Friday protesting against steep rise in the prices of essential commodities.

The rally culminated in a public meeting at Ambedkar Bhavan. Telugu Mahila state president Vanga Geetha presided.

District Telugu Mahila president and former minister Jagarlamudi Padmavathi and former MLA P. Sai Kalpana addressed the gathering.

In the afternoon, the district Scheduled Tribes cell of Telugu Desam Party met in the same hall. State president of TDP ST cell Chitti Naidu presided.

`TDP achievements'

Former Minister Damancharla Anjaneyulu and Addanki MLA and TDP district president Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthi accused the Congress Government of spending all the funds for irrigation at the cost of welfare activities.

They pointed out that the TDP Government had increased the reservation for Scheduled Tribes from 4 to 7 per cent, set up ashram schools and implemented ITDA projects for uplift of tribals.

But the Congress Government cut the budget for all welfare programs affecting weaker sections.

`False promises'

The TDP leaders said that the Congress came to power by making several false promises. They stressed the need for all weaker sections to unite and defeat the Congress in the next elections.
