Good response to Rythu RakshanaYatra in East Godavari

Kakinada: The Rythu RakshanaYatra being conducted by the AP Rythu Sangham has received spontaneous response in East Godavari district with the ryots everywhere bringing to its notice their plight on account of unfavourable seasonal conditions coupled with erratic power supply, according to Basa Satyarao, secretary, district Rythu sangham. The yatra, after covering many areas in the district, reached Sarpavaram junction on Thursday where CPI city secretary T. Madhu welcomed the team members. After passing through Bhanugudi, two-town and superbazar centre, it then reached the Balaji cheruvu centre where a public meeting was held with Chelluboyina Kesava Setty, district Rythu sangham chief, presiding.
Suryadevara Nageswerarao, State vice-president of the AP Rythu Sangham participating as chief guest, alleged that the State Government was adopting anti-farmer policies under the dictates of the World Bank. He blamed the State Government for the present crisis in the agriculture sector and the resultant suicide of farmers.
Mr. Madhu demanded that the Government pay a compensation of Rs.2,500 per acre towards loss of crop either in floods or drought.
He also wanted that the bill on seed introduced in Parliament during the coming session.
Besides, he wanted introduction of health insurance and pension scheme for ryots and nine-hour supply of electricity for agriculture.
The other speakers demanded that agricultural lands be not utilised for industrial use and only banjar lands acquired for such purposes. Later the yatra reached Gollapalem after passing through Jagannadhapuram, Karapa, and Kajuluru where Rythu sangham leaders addressed ryots on their problems.
The 19(A) Air Squadron (T) NCC unit has been adjudged All India best technical squadron at the All India Vayu Sainik camp held at Bangalore from October 5 to16, according to unit commanding officer Wing Commander G Srinivas.
The unit also stood first in Drill and Skeet shooting competitions. Cadet Y V Narendra of the unit has topped in the skeet shooting.
