Party to discuss stand on Rayalaseema post-Statehood

KURNOOL: Former BJP State president N. Indrasena Reddy has said that the party will discuss the stand to be taken on Rayalaseema in the event of separation of Telangana.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, he said the BJP was committed to according Statehood to Telangana but the party considered Rayalaseema an integral part of erstwhile Andhra State.

However, the party would discuss the future of Rayalaseema too. Refuting the charge made by AICC observer Digwijay Singh that the BJP indulged in double speak on Telangana, he said the party had no ambiguity at any stage.

It was ready to introduce a private Bill or support the Bill on Telangana if moved by the Congress. In fact, the Congress must clarify its stand whether it was for separate Telangana or unified Andhra Pradesh, he added.

Nobody would blame the Congress if it declared that the party was against separate Statehood.

It would be on equal footing with the TDP, which was harping on unified State from the beginning.

Statutory mark

On the ongoing controversy over skull mark on beedis, Mr. Indrasena Reddy explained that as part of international treaties with the WHO and other organisations to contain tobacco consumption, certain policies were framed.

But the NDA Government had never wanted to hit the beedi workers as in the present manner, during implementation of the law.

Mr. Reddy called upon teachers of private schools and college to enrol for the teachers' constituencies, as they were also eligible to vote in the council elections.
