Loknayak Puraskar for Vasireddy Sitadevi

VISAKHAPATNAM: Noted writer Vasireddy Sitadevi has been chosen for the Loknayak Puraskar of the Loknayak Foundation. Announcing this here on Friday, the foundation Chairman and former MP Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad said the award carrying a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh would be presented to her in Visakhapatnam on January 18, the death anniversary of former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao and poet Harivanshrai Bachhan.

The award is presented to those distinguishing themselves in the field of Telugu literature and language. Earlier recipients of the award are Malati and N.R. Chandur and Boyi Bhimanna.

Ms. Sitadevi, a prolific writer known for her incisive works reflecting societal conditions, has penned 40 novels, 10 collections of short stories, three books of essays and 11 works of translation. She is the recipient of the Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy award five times, the first Visishta Puraskaram of Telugu University and the Atmagourava Puraskaram of the Andhra Pradesh Government. Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad of Kolkata presented her its Rutumbhara award in 2000.
