HYDERABAD: Fishermen affected by expansion of the deep sea port at Kakinada on Sunday alleged that they were being terrorised by the police for demanding stoppage of port works and implementation of rehabilitation package. At a news conference here on Sunday, leaders of fishermen's associations, Jagannatham and Gandham Srinivas, said there was no security to their lives.

They could not even talk to the media, which was why they were meeting its personnel here. Elaborating on the harassment against 1,200 fishermen families of Kakinada by the police, they said a youth, Abraham, was hospitalised after the police tortured him in custody. He was booked for seeking a rehabilitation package at a meeting organised by a Congress corporator.

They said fishermen were not against expansion of the port, but were only seeking implementation of a G.O., which provides for rehabilitating them.
