Special buses to be operated from January 8 to January 20
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Division of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will operate special buses from here to Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Amalapuram, Ramachandrapuram and Srikakulam in view of heavy movement of passengers expected during Sankranti celebrations.
Divisional Manager (rural) G. Ramakanth told The Hindu that most of the special buses would be in super luxury, deluxe and express categories and leave in the late evenings or night. The special buses would be operated from January 8 to January 20. Five buses in addition to the 10 regular services would be operated to Hyderabad. For Vijayawada four more buses would be run in addition to the present three and for Ramachandrapuram and Amalapuram there would be three more services each in addition to the two regular services. He said the RTC is operating a bus every 20 minutes to Srikakulam now and it would be supplemented with five more buses during the festival season and more fleet would be added if the demand increased. Mr. Ramakanth pointed out that the RTC plied 35 special buses to various destinations from here during 2006 Sankranti. The corporation would ensure that the services in other routes are not affected due to deployment of special buses, he said adding that buses from other Divisions would be obtained if needeed.
As the peak period of traffic will be on January 14 and 15 (Bhogi and Sankranti) the corporation will watch the situation and deploy more services to ensure that no passenger is disappointed.
