NIZAMABAD: Noted educationist Chukka Ramaiah is of the view that the Chief Minister's decision to establish the Indian Institute of Technology near Hyderabad is a mischievous plan to drive a wedge among different areas of Telangana to weaken the demand for Statehood.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said, "I have nothing to do with any political party. But, I will not sit quiet seeing injustice being done to Basar. Injustice to Basar means injustice to the entire Telangana. I am ready to lay down my life to oppose it and also for IIT at Basar"

Recalling that all parties, including the Congress in the last general elections promised to fight for the IIT at Basar, he said even after introducing this in its manifesto the Congress was now deceiving Telangana people. When the Assembly resolved on the issue twice, the Congress supported it, he added.

On the reasons given by the Government for the change of its decision, he said absence of airport was not a hindrance. "A mini airport can be built and all necessary infrastructure be made if the IIT is established," he said.
