Lack of coordination has led to poor performance
VIZIANAGARAM: National ST Commission member Buduru Srinivasulu has said that welfare schemes being launched for tribals must be in line with the needs of a particular region.
Reviewing implementation of welfare schemes for tribals at the Collectorate on Friday, Mr. Srinivasulu said if schemes were not of beneficiaries' choice it would be a waste of grants. When officials could not mention the number of dropouts in schools, extent of land distributed to tribals, rules of reservation etc, he said that ITDA officials seem to have come unprepared with statistics and action plans.
He felt that lack of coordination between departments was the reason for poor performance. Further, he asked officials to initiate criminal action against those who have been enjoying benefits by producing false caste certificates. Seventeen cases had so far been registered since 1998 in the district.
However, he said in the name of inquiry it was not proper to take maximum time to dispose of cases. He pulled up ITDA Project Officer A.K. Sinha for not quoting one section under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.
