Thousands trek Tirumala footpath Thousands trek Tirumala footpath
TIRUPATI: Spiritual ecstasy pervaded the foothills of Alipiri as thousands of Dasa devotees set out on a trek up the Tirumala footpath in the small hours of Tuesday as part of the three-day `Dhanurmasa-Metlothsavam' that got under way on Monday.
The trek was preceded by an hour-long ritual at the `Padala Mandapam' located at the base of the steps. Recitation of Suprabhatham, chanting of the names of the lord and religious discourses marked the rituals.
`Pathway to bliss'
A.P.V. Narayana Sarma, TTD's Executive Officer, and P.R. Ananda Theerthacharya, Special officer of the TTD's `Dasa Sahithya' Project which is organising the programme, participated in the ceremony held before the trekking began.
Pundits, in their discourses, said that a holy trek up the Tirumala footpath before the crack of dawn amidst chanting of the Lord's names was the surest way to attain eternal bliss.
What gave an added significance to the current phase of `Metlothsavam' was its synchronisation with `Dhanurmasam' which was considered the holiest month of the year and ideal for all spiritual programmes.
After reaching Tirumala, the trekkers went round the mada streets of the shrine and later had darshan of the Lord.
