30 employees donate blood

VIJAYAWADA: A blood donation camp marked the fifth anniversary celebrations of The Hindu , Vijayawada edition, here on Wednesday.

The blood donation camp was organised in association with the Indian Red Cross Society. Nearly 30 employees, led by Regional General Manager of the unit M. Krishna Kiran, donated blood. A meet of prominent advertisers and advertising agencies was held in the evening. V. Kalidas, vice-president, Advertising, Chennai, was present.

The local branch of the national newspaper was launched on December 13, 2001. The edition has made rapid strides in terms of circulation and advertisement revenue in the last five years.

The newspaper has widened its reach by focusing on people's needs in terms of editorial content. Two new supplements -- MetroPlus, the lifestyle capsule aimed at capturing the whim and fancy of the youth, and EducationPlus, the answer to the ever-inquisitive spirits of the student community - were added to the city edition. Besides, an exclusive single page has been introduced in the Young World to highlight children's activities in the region. To familiarise schoolchildren with the fascinating world of newspapers, Newspaper In Education (NIE) programme has been made part of the curriculum in some schools after the launch of the edition.
