HYDERABAD: Telugu film actor, NTR Junior on Saturday significantly admitted that the aggressive campaign for Telugu Desam was his way of reasserting his position in NTR’s family but couched it to include the party’s status in the State.
Responding to a question in an email interview to The Hindu, after being discharged from the hospital, the actor said, “You could say (that). The campaign is (also) my contribution towards reasserting the party’s position in Andhra Pradesh. I am using the same genes and legacy of my grand father for the glory of his brainchild called TDP.”
“I am not facing any identity crisis in my family,” he asserted while dismissing the suggestion that his decision to campaign was intended at fighting back lack of respect and recognition in the family.
He responded with a characteristic “ha ha” when asked if he felt he was being used by some political leaders for their selfish ends.
“It could have been true if my grandfather had not founded Telugu Desam. I thought it is my responsibility to campaign for the party that he has founded and which was committed to the cause of socio-economic development of Andhra Pradesh”.
By campaigning for the party he said he was not risking his acting profession. “Cinema is my profession and party is my responsibility. I do not see any clash between the two. Instead I can make them complementary to each other. As a party worker I can understand the needs and aspirations of masses which will certainly be useful for my film career. As an actor I can use my image to inspire the party and its cadre.” On whether he planned to enter politics having received overwhelming response, NTR Junior, who created a sensation through his lively campaign style till the road accident brought it to an abrupt end, said he was not at all ready to get into politics. “But one thing is sure. I am committed to my TDP. If it orders me, I am ready to do anything”.
He said he was fortunate to receive such response from people on his very first public appearance. “I am so much indebted to the land of Telugus and its people.”
With doctors suggesting complete rest for another four weeks, he said direct campaigning for the party may not be possible. He could still do it indirectly by interacting with different media.
