KADAPA: Congress maintained its hold on gram panchayats by winning seven out of the nine panchayats whose results were declared on Friday evening.

Of the 25 panchayats and 242 ward member posts notified, 12 panchayats and 149 wards were already decided unanimously.

None filed nominations for two wards and nomination papers of five wards were rejected.

Eighty-five per cent votes were polled for 13 panchayats and 86 wards.

In a post-poll clash, rival Congress groups pelted stones at each other in Prabalaveedu in B. Kodur mandal, after a rebel Congress candidate was declared elected, but the police ensured order. Congress candidates were elected sarpanches of Munnelli and Prabalaveedu in B. Kodur mandal, Viswanathapuram in Duvvur mandal, Motakatla and Devapatla in Sambepalle mandal, Amagampalle and Katheragandla in Kasinayana mandal, TDP candidates won sarpanch posts in Nagireddipalle and Itukalapadu.
