Out of 775 people who participated in the “People's Ballot” conducted in Tirupati on Tuesday by the JAC of the publicity wing of the Right To Information Act (RTI), as many as 746 have firmly expressed themselves against the ‘arbitrary and questionable' manner in which the government has recently appointed the Information Commissioners to the Office of the RTI.

Their appointments are fraught with political and extraneous considerations, was the refrain of the voters who turned up for the ballot jointly organized by the RTI-JAC, Chittoor district unit of the State Consumers Association and the Lok Satta.

In a note released after the ballot, the JAC leaders said that the ballot clearly mirrored the decisive conclusion of the general public over the manner in which the government had selected the Information Officers and called upon the Chief Minister to realise the public mood at least now.

Among those who were present at the people's ballot held here were the State secretary of the AP Consumers Association, P. Raja Reddy, district LS leader, Lokesh Babu, convener of the JAC, M. Srinivasulu, social activist, N.B. Sudhakar Reddy.
