HYDERABAD: The 132 KV cable line from Moula Ali to Chilkalguda, which developed snag near Secunderabad station on Friday last, has been restored, informed officials from the APTransco. “The line was charged at 11 p.m. on Friday and power supply was normalised in all localities,” N. Rama Rao, Superintendent Engineer (TL&SS) informed.

The cable line initially broke down on May 4 when one among its many joints snapped due to ageing and overloading. Many areas within the purview of substations drawing from the line, and also others, experienced power cuts ranging from two to four hours due to the snag. The joint was duly replaced after a week of continuous toiling by the staff. However, within five days, another joint in the same cable snapped at the same location, though in a different phase. The impact this time has been on a larger number of areas, with longer durations of outages, some ranging up to six hours.

The series of breakdowns have forced the authorities to revisit their decision to lay underground cables without alternative supply lines.
