TENALI: Agricultural scientists have appealed to farmers to take up extensive cultivation of maize and said farmers could hope for better remunerative prices.
Speaking at a one-day workshop on ‘Cultivation of Maize,’ held at Anantvaram village in Kollur mandal on Monday evening, National Maize Research Centre Director S. Veerabhadram said cultivation of maize has multiple benefits, including presrevation of soil fertility. Consumption of Maize mould prove beneficial and could prevent diabetes, he opined.
Senior scientist A. Ashok advised that greater comsumption of maize as an alternative to paddy was beneficial.
Lam farm scientist A. Subbarami Reddy said cultivation of Maize has gained popularity with farmers reaping a rich harvest of about 15-20 quintals per acre.
Scientists from Bapatla Agricultural College, J.S. Mishra, A. Satyanarayana, J. Ram Prasad and T. Nageswara Rao were present.
