The Public Health Foundation of India and Indian Institute of Public Health organised a workshop for media persons to generate awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco, here on Tuesday.

K. R. Kishore, Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, said that the media should play a leading role in creating public awareness about ill-effects of tobacco and also inculcate a social responsibility among them for its prevention.

He said a programme for regulating tobacco consumption was being implemented by PHFI and IIPH in six districts - East Godavari, Karimnagar, Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Prakasam and Visakhapatnam - in the State.
