ANANTAPUR: Officials of Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply were at the receiving end as members of both the ruling Congress and Opposition TDP had a heated debate on drinking water problem in the Zilla Parishad general body meeting held here on Tuesday. The officials concerned struggled to convince the members with their replies.

Members expressed dismay stating that even the problems mentioned in the February 19 meeting were also not resolved so far.

District Collector had then stated that there was no paucity of funds for drinking water needs and they would be released immediately as and when required. However, lack funds had kept the problems in their areas unresolved, they alleged.

Kanekal mandal president Rajagopal Reddy of Congress pleaded ZP Chairperson T. Kavitha to save them from getting brickbats of people as they are unable to resolve drinking water problems for months together.

There is severe scarcity of water in Hanumapuram, Marempalli, Garudachedu, Kanekal cross and other villages but not a pie had been released to attend the problem so far, in spite of the Collector’s assurance.

The Chairperson said lack of clarity in the maintenance of water schemes between the PR, RWS and Panchayat departments is adding to the problem. None of the three departments are taking the responsibility getting the burnt motors repaired, she stated expressing her helplessness.

Kambadur ZPTC member K. Rammohan Chowdary of TDP said that drinking water source motor was not repaired for three months now. Bommanahal mandal president complained that an Indiramma housing colony constructed at Siddalampuram in the first phase was not provided.

A borewell was sunk but it was not sanctioned the power connection.

Insects are coming in the drinking water supplied at Vidapanakal due to lack of cleaning of the service reservoir for long, Vidapanakal ZPTC member Ramana Reddy of the Congress complained. Problems in Kuderu, Penukonda mandals were also brought to the notice at the meeting.

Later, irregularities in Indiramma housing scheme and delay in sanction of bills for work done were also discussed at the meeting.
