VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna district medical and health authorities on Saturday geared up to screen two persons, who travelled by the British Airways (BA 277) flight of May 31, at the Government General Hospital here to detect if they were affected by influenza A (H1N1) virus.
Following the instructions given by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy during a review of the state of preparedness to tackle the epidemic, the district authorities went on a high alert and found that six persons belonging to Krishna district were among those who travelled by this flight, from where the disease had started spreading. Of these six, five were found to be of Vijayawada, but three of them were already in Hyderabad. The authorities started looking out for the remaining two persons belonging to Vijayawada and one more person of Machilipatnam to put them through the mandatory tests. Government General Hospital authorities told The Hindu that an isolation ward was readied and arrangements were put in place to screen them for the virus.
The identity of the suspected patients was not revealed to protect their privacy and not to create a panic, the officials said.
