HYDERABAD: The city unit of Congress is bracing up for the forthcoming GHMC elections with the Health Minister and Family Welfare Minister D. Nagender making a visit of his constituency here on Saturday. The constituency tour of Mr. Nagender, who also is the party’s local unit chief, follows Friday’s city tour of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

The Minister interacted with residents of Umanagar, Kundanbagh, B.S. Maqtha and Khairatabad and promised all support in resolving their problems.

Assuring more visits covering all municipal divisions in the constituency in coming weeks, he said other Ministers along with legislators and senior party leaders would take up similar visits in their respective constituencies in the city and Ranga Reddy district. Interacting with residents of Umanagar, the Minister promised to visit the colony regularly and address their grievances in a phased manner.

The residents requested him to use his good offices in getting permission from the GHMC to install barricades in each street to ensure safety in the wake of series of thefts reported in the colony for last few months.

A few weeks ago, thieves struck at the house of Shakuntala Keshav Naidu and escaped with 45 tolas gold jewellery and other valuables, they complained.

Mr. Nagender assured that he would discuss the issue with the officials of Municipal Corporation and police.

He also asked the police personnel to intensify patrolling in the colony especially during night.

Colony Welfare Association vice-president Y. Umapathy said residents were facing water-logging, drainage and streetlights problems. “As the present lighting in our park in not sufficient, we want you to initiate measures to solve the problem in coordination with the GHMC,” he told the Minister.
