HYDERABAD: A spirit manufacturing industry caught fire at Ibrahimpatnam on the city suburbs on Monday afternoon. However, there were no casualties.
Nearly 35,000 litres spirit stored in the Kalpa industry caught fire around 12.15 p.m. Workers scampered to safety on noticing thick smoke billowing out and also alerted the Fire Control Room.
Three fire tenders from Malakpet, Malkajgiri and Hayathnagar were rushed to the spot and fire-fighting operation was carried out till late in the evening. “We had a tough time in dousing flames as a huge quantity of spirit caught fire,” said Hayathnagar Fire Officer T. Purnachandar.
Sparks first emanated from the manufacturing unit and later spread to the storage unit causing extensive damage to the factory. Though exact reasons for the fire accident were yet to be ascertained the officials said the short circuit could be a reason behind the incident.
