Different airline companies to introduce additional flights
The full length of Vijayawada Airport has been put to use for the first time after it was cleared of all the trees during the past two weeks and a trial run was conducted with regular flights landing there on Monday.
The AAI Vijayawada Airport Director C. Pattabhi told The Hindu that the trial runs would be conducted for 10 days and feedback taken for the proper operation of the additional length of 1,500 feet. The runway was being used up to 6,000 feet and has now been extended to 7,500 feet. With this extension of runway wide-bodies aircraft can now land from the Winter Schedule beginning October 27.
Meanwhile, a team of experts will arrive here within a couple of days to take up the installation of Instrument Landing System (ILS), which would take over a month and with trails completed, traffic would be opened on the new system, he observed.
