Ms. Jhansi Lakshmi, who earlier flagged off a rally at RTC complex, said birth control would be possible if only awareness was created among women.

District Leprosy Officer S. Chandra Reddy, who presided, announced that the district bagged the best award in both sterilisations and immunisation programmes. B.K. Naik, coordinator of Hospital Services, said eligible couples must shoulder the responsibility to control birth rate. District TB Control Officer Rama Rao, Additional DM & HO Visweswara Rao, MIMS nursing students and others participated.

Later, the Lok Sabha member gave away best surgeon award to N. Suryanarayana (Parvatipuram) and D. Yugandhar (Nellimarla). The best staff nurse award was presented to Reddy Padma (Pedankalam PHC) and best CDPO award to P. Bhavani (Vizianagaram). All round best services awards were given to Devupalli PHC and Guruvunaidupeta PHC.
