ADILABAD: The Adilabad District Planning Committee (DPC) on Saturday unanimously resolved to urge the State government to declare the district as drought-hit. Members belonging to different parties said the move to declare the district as drought-hit was necessary in view of the deficit rainfall this monsoon.
MLC K. Premsagar Rao moved the resolution that was supported by all the members including the special invitees, Adilabad MP Ramesh Rathod and MLAs Atram Sakku (Asifabad), K. Sammaiah (Sirpur), Suman Rathod (Khanapur), G. Nagesh (Boath) and Jogu Ramanna (Adilabad). Bellampally MLA and floor leader of CPI in Legislative Assembly Gunda Mallesh exhibited dry jowar plants to buttress his contention that crop was lost due to continuing dry spell in the district.
The DPC was declared ended after a heated debate on the allocation of grants under the Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF) under the ZP quota. Congress members led by Mr. Premsagar Rao contended that the quantum of allocation to mandals was not in accordance with the given guideline.
They wanted the allocation to mandals be based on population of the mandals. In charge chairman of the Zilla Parishad Juttu Ashok presided and Collector and member secretary of the DPC attended among others.
