They demand suspension of deputy director of Social Welfare Department

SFI workers barge in taking officials by surprise

Lack of security at meeting place

KHAMMAM: The proceedings of the Zilla Parishad general body which met here today, were thrown out of gear as group of the SFI activists sneaked into the meeting hall shouting slogans denouncing what they called the irregularities in the Social Welfare Department.

They squatted in front of the podium demanding suspension of the deputy director of the Social Welfare Department, Devara Vasu. They demanded a categorical assurance from the Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, Vanama Venkateswar Rao on their demand.

The police were away from the hall when the SFI workers barged in and demonstrated by taking both the elected representatives and the officials by surprise.

The Minister had lost his cool with the protesters reaching out the press and the ZPTC members with pamphlets against the officer.

He wanted them to leave the hall but they did not relent.

Tough time

The protesters were successful in holding up the proceedings for more than 10 minutes before the police were called in.

The protesters were physically lifted from the hall. They squatted again outside the ZP meeting hall, thus forcing the police to act tough.

The protesters were rounded up and taken away from the area in two vehicles. Another batch of girls descended on the scene shouting slogans soon after. The police had a tough time in dealing with them.

They were all rounded and set free some time in the evening.

Strong exception

Many of the elected representatives took strong exception to what they called lapse of security in the meeting place. Bhatti Vikramarka, MLC said that the members attending official programme in the Zilla Parishad would be under threat if any one could simply sneak into the meeting place.

Many others would soon make a beeline to the Zilla Parishad meeting to air their grievances if this had become a precedent.

He wanted a resolution to be adopted by the general body condemning the incident.

The Zilla Parishad Chairperson, Gonela Vijayalakshmi, Puvvada Nageswara rao, MLC, Gummadi Narsaiah and Payam Venkateswarlu, MLAs were among those who were present.
