‘CPI ready for any eventuality, even mid-term polls’
TIRUPATI: Communist Party of India secretary A.B. Bardhan has said that the United Progressive Alliance government cannot expect support from his party on the nuclear deal issue by repeatedly raising the mid-term poll bogey.
Addressing the concluding session of the party’s 23rd State convention here on Friday, he said the Congress could not hope to push forward its agenda unilaterally with its ‘blackmail tactics’ and declared that the CPI was ready for any eventuality, ‘including mid-term elections’.
Flaying the Congress for readily walking into the trap laid by the USA , he termed as hollow the super power’s willingness to recognise India as a ‘strategic partner’. Mr. Bardhan said that the announcement on a secular political alternative, equidistant to both the Congress and the BJP, would be made at the 20th Communist congress to be held in Hyderabad in March 2008.
