HYDERABAD: Locals caught a 26-year-old man at Bhimreddynagar of Boduppal allegedly while fleeing after trying to burgle a house during daytime on Monday.
The Uppal police recovered stolen goods worth Rs. 7.5 lakh from the accused, who was later identified as Mohd. Hameed. Cyberabad DCP (Alwal) Mahesh Bhagwat said Hameed broke into a house and was searching for valuables when the house owner’s wife, Jyothi, returned home.
She raised an alarm on seeing the stranger ransacking the house.
Hameed started running but the neighbours and some labourers working at a building under construction caught him after a chase. They handed over him to the local police.
During interrogation, the police found he was earlier arrested several times by the city police on charge of involvement in burglaries.
Based on his confession, they recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments, digital cameras and mobile phones, which he allegedly stole from different houses and shops in Uppal, Ghatkesar and L.B. Nagar.
