HYDERABAD: Big incisions, trauma related with open heart surgeries, possible complications and long hospital stay can be ruled out through the latest technology of minimally invasive robotic cardiac surgeries, says chief of robotic cardiac surgery Saint Michael’s Medical Centre, Newark, New Jersey.

Making a presentation on the advantages and technique of robotic coronary artery surgery at Care Hospital, Banjara Hills, on Tuesday, Dr. Nilesh, who performed about 700 robotic coronary artery surgeries in the US with 99 per cent success rate, said the robotic system would allow the surgeon to perform complex heart surgery without ever having to open the patient’s chest.

The advantages are shorter recovery time, less postoperative pain, reduced risk of complications and infection.

Bollywood comedian Johnny Lever, who hails from the State, teamed up with friends Bobby Maddela, a US-based businessman, and Dr. Nilesh U. Patel to make the latest technology popular in the country through the Johnny Lever and Bobby’s Medical Mission.

“We made a beginning with Care Hospital in city as it has a robotic surgery department, the only one in South India.”

Training offer

Dr. Nilesh offered his services to train the doctors here in robotic surgery as it is a different skill through the Medical Mission of Johnny Lever. The robotic surgery would cost 25 per cent more than the convention heart surgery, said Dr. Srinivas K. Iyengar of Care Hospital, Institute of Medical Sciences.

Johnny Lever said he wanted to facilitate an interaction between Dr. Nilesh and doctors here and Care Hospital CMD Somaraju had responded positively.
