Telugu Talli Rathotsavam rolls down thoroughfares

TIRUPATI: The nine-day long Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavalu jointly being organised at Tirupati by the Telugu Samskriti Vikasa Vedika and the TTD got off to a colourful start with the ‘Telugu Talli Rathothsavam’.

The decked up chariot with the icon of ‘Telugu Talli’ on board rolled along the main streets of the temple city as Telugu litterateurs, singers, musicians and a host of arts and culture lovers pulled it along.

Large number of people who lined up on either side of the road joined the chorus in hailing ‘Telugu Talli’.

Before the ‘ratham’ set out on its course from the Sri Krishnadevaraya statue junction on the Tirumala bypass road, TTD Board Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy said that programmes like this was imperative in the context of a red alert reportedly sounded by a United Nations survey against the lurking dangers of Telugu getting extinct in the days to come due to neglect and onslaught from other factors.

Cultural hub

Saying that Tirupati would be developed as the cultural and literary hub of the country, Mr. Reddy pointed out that it was the reason why the temple town was selected as the venue for the literary fete. TTD Executive Officer K.V. Ramanachary listed the measures being taken by the TTD to preserve and propagate Indian values, culture, ethos through the print, audio and visual formats.

Tirupati MLA, M. Venkatramana, this fete would go a long way to inspire Telugus at home about the language. Ch. Bhaskar Reddy, Chairman of the TUDA, Telugu linguists like Medasani Mohan, Sakam Nagaraj, Nadendla Srimannarayana were among the participants.
