HYDERABAD: The auto unions on Wednesday claimed that the digital meters that were installed in autorickshaws by transport department under trial basis were not tamper proof and were malfunctioning.
The Anti-Auto Digital Meters Struggle Committee, convenor Mohd. Amanullah Khan said the digital meter, that was installed in an auto-rickshaw (Reg. No AP 10 V 7249), was charging abnormal fares of over Rs. 8. The claims of transport authorities that the digital meters were not tamper proof and it would give an indication automatically, if the meter was manipulated have been proved wrong, he maintained. Joint Transport Commissioner C. L. N Gandhi informed that the auto-rickshaw was seized by the authorities and instructions were issued to Weights and Measures Department and the manufacturer of the digital meter to ascertain whether the meter was tampered.
