HYDERABAD: For 11-year-old Teertha Iska, India No.3 tennis player in the under-12 category, it was a perfect gift on Children’s Day which she would really cherish. I. Syam Prasad Reddy, MD & CEO of Indu Group, a city-based end-to-end infrastructure solutions provider, presented a cheque of Rs.16 lakh as part of the group’s sponsorship for the gifted tennis player.
Significantly, Teertha widely tipped to be a potential champion, has a ranking of No.32 in the US Tennis Association as she is a regular on the US circuit being a trainee in the famous Florida-based Nick Bolletterri Tennis Academy. And more importantly, her coach is the same gentleman who guided the destiny of Andre Agassi.
“We are happy to sponsor the training expenditure of Teertha, as we found her to be a promising talent . We expect her to win many international events,” says Prasad Reddy.
“For us, this sponsorship is also fulfilling our social responsibility to help bright children who require support for training in education, sports and arts,” he said to a query.
For Teertha, who began playing at the IMG in 2004, thanks to her indefatigable father Sunil, a small-time chemicals trader who had spent about Rs.30 lakh for his daughter, the timing of this gesture could not have been more appropriate.
“It is great news given the fact that I am targeting to be the No.1 in India and as part of that I will be taking part in the Eddie Herr international tournaments in US this December,” Teertha explained.
“Normally, these sponsorships come when you cross 18. So, I feel I am really lucky that Indu Group has come forward to support me and I hope to live up to their expectations,” she said.
Incidentally, Teertha’s younger sister Akshara is also a very promising tennis player and ranked India’s No.9 in the under-12 category.
And these sisters are dreaming to become a worthy doubles pair.
The best part of the gesture from Indu Group is that they will have a long-term partnership to help the young tennis player Teertha to achieve something really big in the field of tennis.
