HYDERABAD: On Children’s Day on Wednesday, the Assembly had special visitors as a group of visually impaired musicians and children suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia called on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy with a different plea.

Students of Sunethra School for the Blind affiliated to the Institute for Training, Relief, Rehabilitation of Disabled, Distressed, Disinherited Children urged Dr. Reddy to permit them to disseminate information on HIV/AIDS through their musical troupe comprising visually impaired musicians. The Chief Minister offered to look into their request.

Earlier, Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society president D. Ramana informed the Chief Minister that the society was providing treatment to 750 children suffering from thalassemia and urged him to allocate land for construction of a building to house the transfusion centre. They said the centre was presently functioning from a crammed building which had only facility for 10-beds.
