Alleges that the chairman walked out of the meeting without adjourning it

NALGONDA: The vice-chairperson of the Suryapet municipality Beeravolu Ravinder Reddy created a flutter by sitting in the council hall for about 18 hours alleging that the chairman Meela Satyanarayana walked out of the meeting without adjourning it. Both of them belong to the Congress party.

The trouble started at the council’s general body meeting on Wednesday evening when a couple of ruling party councillors— Pendem Chandrasekhar and Ganduri Prakash-- were engaged in a verbal duel.

Objection

As the melee was going on for sometime, the chairman walked out of the meeting hall along with the minutes’ book.

He didn’t come back creating utter confusion among the members.

Mr. Reddy took objection to the chairman’s action and alleged that he walked out without adjourning the meeting. “As he didn’t follow the mandatory formalities, I would sit here till he adjourns the meeting,” Mr.Reddy announced.

He remained in the council hall throughout the night. The efforts made by the local Congress leaders to persuade him to withdraw the protest proved futile.

Mr. Reddy continued his protest till 9 a.m. on Thursday. As the local MLA Vedasu Venkaiah (Congress) assured him of taking up the matter with the party high command, Mr.Reddy went home.

Chairman’s version

The businessman-turned-politician, Mr.Satyanarayana told The Hindu that he had announced the adjournment before leaving the council hall.

“I declared it there itself. I went to my chambers and mentioned about the adjournment in the minutes’ book before keeping it in the cupboard,” he clarified.

He alleged that Mr.Ravinder Reddy had been resorting to such tricks to embarrass him.

“He was the TRS State secretary before joining the Congress. He always wants to make fuss,” he maintained.
