KADAPA: Minister for Medical Education Galla Aruna Kumari on Thursday turned down the Telugu Desam Party leaders’ demand for instituting an inquiry into alleged negligence of the district administration in rescuing bus passengers stranded on a causeway claiming seven lives.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who was in Kadapa, monitored rescue and relief operations and the district administration was engrossed in rescue operations at Chitvel, she said at a press conference here.
Refuting charges of negligence in permanent restoration of the bridge which was washed away thrice since the 2001 floods, she said tenders were called twice earlier, but no contractor came forward.
Accusing TDP leaders of criticising the Chief Minister on every issue, She assured to apprise him on the TDP’s demand for ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs each to the kin of the deceased bus passengers.
