HYDERABAD: Jupudi Prabhakara Rao, MLC and Mala Mahanadu president, demanded that Ministers and MLAs should break their silence and take a clear stand against those indulging in opportunistic politics and harming the interest of Congress party and the State.

Some leaders who were opposed to Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy were again in the forefront and doing their best to scuttle the chances of Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy to become the Chief Minister though he had the backing of party MLAs, he said. It was time Ministers and MLAs demanded convening of Congress Legislature Party to elect its leader.

It was unfortunate that even 27 days after YSR’s death the high command was not in a position to convene the CLP, he added.

He appreciated Minister Konda Surekha for frankly stating that she would quit her post if Mr. Jagan was not made the Chief Minister.

Mr. Rao took exception to the remarks of AICC representative K. Kesava Rao and Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao in connection with the tearing of flexi banner carrying pictures of Congress leaders at Khammam. They painted the incident as if the party workers were showing their ire against Ms.Gandhi though the torn banner had pictures of YSR and Renuka Choudhary.
