It is heart-breaking to know from the feature on tourism with the heading ‘No place yet for city on tourist map’, which appeared in these columns on October 17, that the Kondapalli Fort has been neglected since long time. There have been several proposals and plans since 1971 to develop Kondapalli as a tourist centre and establish a national park on the hill. The initiative was taken by the then Union Minister and noted irrigation engineer K.L. Rao. We, on behalf of the Kondapalli Consumers Council, also made several representations from time to time to develop Kondapalli as a tourist centre and establish a national park, but nothing has happened till date. If developed properly, Kondapalli has the potential to attract foreign tourists also.
