VIZIANAGARAM: In spite of completing two mega drinking water schemes at a cost of Rs. 9 crores and Rs. 10 crores respectively some 49 villages in Nellimarla, Gurla, Gantyada and Bondapalli mandals have not been receiving water due to lack of clearances from railways.
According to RWS sources, the Rs. 9-crore mega Ramatheertham water scheme was divided into three packages for quick execution and supply of water to seven villages under Moida package, 16 villages under N.R. Peta package and 27 villages under SSR Peta package.
Barring Moida and NR Peta packages, water to 27 villages under SSR package could not be supplied because a pipeline must have to be laid across a railway track.
Executive Engineer (RWS) (Projects) M. Rajeswara Rao had written several letters to Railways for clearance but there was no response from railway officials, the sources said.
Similarly, the Budathanapalli package, which was part of the Rs. 10-crore Gosthani scheme could not be completed as a clearance from railways was required for laying a pipeline from underneath a track near Budathanapalli. The package was sanctioned in 2003.
