HYDERABAD: A physiotherapy student, who had allegedly raped a ninth standard student and recorded the act on his mobile phone, has been threatening her of putting the visuals on the Internet, the Chatrinaka police said on Thursday.
A hunt has been launched for the accused, Ravi Kiran, 21, of Mahbubnagar town, who is in the final year of physiotherapy course. A case under Section 376 of the IPC has been registered against him.
The accused happened to see the mobile phone number of a woman lecturer living in SRT Colony of Chatrinaka as it was displayed in a television programme after she won a contest.
He rang up that number saying he too was interested in taking part in such TV programmes and sought the woman’s guidance in November last. The unsuspecting lecturer and her husband treated Kiran as a family friend. The couple had two daughters. The elder one was studying in a residential college away from city.
In February last, Kiran went to the lecturer’s house while she and her husband were away, allegedly raped their younger daughter and threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to anyone. On learning about the incident a few weeks later, the girl’s parents went to Kiran’s house and complained to his family members who assured them that Kiran would not visit their house again.
Meanwhile, he began making threatening calls to the girl and her parents saying he had recorded the act on his mobile and would keep the footage on Internet if they failed to give him the money he demanded. The girl’s parents approached the police on Friday.
