HYDERABAD: A trough of low pressure which formed in west central and adjoining north-western Bay of Bengal on Friday, persisted on Saturday too, promising heavy rains in parts of the State.

The South West Monsoon, which was on its last phase in the State, turned active as the trough was accompanied by an associated upper air cyclonic circulation that extended from Andhra Pradesh coast to Tamil Nadu coast.

The India Met department, after assessing the situation off and along the coast, issued a warning that parts of coastal Andhra would battered by heavy rainfall on Sunday. A senior weather official said the trough was likely to intensify into a low pressure by Monday.
